The challenge

One of the world's largest banks, with a strong presence in Europe and Latin America, faced obsolescence in its COBOL legacy systems, which compromised operational agility, made it harder to meet regulatory demands and limited competitiveness. There was also a bloated technology footprint, with redundant systems and low integration between platforms. Modernization was strategic to sustain the bank's digital transformation, and the bank partnered with BRQ to carry it out.

What we did

BRQ worked in partnership with the bank to convert COBOL legacy systems to a modern Java and DB2 platform. The process included cleaning up and improving the existing systems, followed by detailed documentation to ensure a safe transition.

Our team, made up of COBOL, Java and DB2 specialists, systems analysts and project managers, adopted agile methodologies to tailor the solutions to the bank's needs and ensure integration with the ecosystem's other platforms.

The project reduced the systems footprint from 126 to 106, with a target of under 100, and remains ongoing as a central piece of the bank's modernization strategy.
